Gestational diabetes

I didn't pass my blood stick last Wednesday for gestational diabetes. So I went back to the doctor yesterday for more tests. Three hours and four blood sticks later, they diagnosed me with gestational diabetes. 3-5% of pregnant women get this. Half of the women who develop this have no risk factors - which I didn't. No Dad, it is not caused by age :)

This can be controlled by diet and exercise. I have to start monitoring my sugar several times a day and watch my diet. I will see a nutrition counselor next week for a menu and then visit with her throughout the rest of my pregnancy. There shouldn't be any complications for labor and delivery, other than maybe a "larger" baby. I hope that doesn't happen! Here's a link if you are interested in reading more.

WALKING!!!

Woo-hoo! Rainey is 14 1/2 months and walking. He has been taking a few steps here and there around our house. But low and behold, we get to Oma and Opa's house over Memorial Weekend and he starts taking off. He is getting pretty good. The one bad thing is that I can't hear him. When he crawled, I could hear his hands on the tile or legs dragging on the carpet. I guess I'm going to have to buy him those shoes that squeak when he walks so I know where he is. He is a walking fool!

Memorial Weekend

We went to the MS Coast for Memorial Weekend. We decided to try out the DVD player and headset in the truck. He did not know what to make of it. Needless to say, he watched most of his DVDs in silence on the way there and back. The headset stayed on for maybe 15 seconds.

Chuck E Cheese

Rainey went to a friend's birthday party at Chuck E Cheese a couple of weekends ago. The first picture wasn't "after" the party. He actually fell asleep in the car on the way there and stayed asleep in his stroller for a good 30 minutes. I don't know how he stayed asleep with all the noise and action going on around him. When he finally awoke, he had a great time!

Look at those legs!!

Mother's Day and Rainey's Dedication

During church service on Mother's Day, Rainey was dedicated to God. During this process, Pastor Jerry reads a special verse for each child. Here is Rainey's:

"He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart." Psalm 91:4

Belly time!

Opa's little helper

While Opa was here, he put together my cradle for Baby #2. This cradle was made by his father for me. Rainey slept in it when we was younger and now it's #2's turn.

New pool and shades

Now that we are hitting the 90 degree mark, I decided to buy Rainey a pool. What else does he need with the pool? Some new shades!

Loves to read!

Rainey is a reading fool! He loves to read books. We read books anywhere from two to three times a day. He starts off by reading by himself. He actually makes noise like he is reading out loud. After a few minutes, he brings the books to either of us and it's our turn to read to him. I hope he keeps it up through school.

My, has he grown into his leder hosen! I think he'll be ready to wear it for Oktoberfest this year :)

Mommy's illness

As most of you are aware, I was admitted to the hospital last Thursday after being sick for a week. I was in/out of OB observation twice before being admitted. After several tests and a spinal tap, a neurologist confirmed that I had viral meningitis. They kept me in the hospital in isolation for four days. I was on an IV with steroid treatment. I was discharged yesterday and sent home with steroids to take for a week.

I am feeling much better but am very tired. The neurologist said to expect to be tired for a couple of weeks and take it easy. Thankfully my mom flew in a week ago last Thursday (my first onset of illness) and has been helping to take care of Rainey and the house.
