Communicating
Rainey is babbling a whole lot now. We think he is saying "dadda", "doggie", "duck", and "whawha" (water). I haven't heard "momma" yet but I'm working on it. He does however point to his chest when you ask him where is momma (Chip says that's because I'm in his heart).
He can also tell you how old he is by sticking up his index finger. So, so cute! He will pick up his feet when you ask him where are your feet and touches his belly when you ask where is your belly.
He was full of energy in the doctor's office yesterday. He wanted to walk around the whole time holding my cell phone, smiling at the other people. He is so full of energy.
Speaking of doctor's office, we were there for our second try at the 3D ultrasound of Aden. Low and behold, he was in the same position as last time and we couldn't get any pictures or video. I guess we'll have to wait until he's born. That booger!

Father's Day
Rainey's Granddad, Grandma Sissy and Aunt Amy came into town for Father's Day. It has been awhile for him to see them but it didn't take long for him to warm up to them. We had a wonderful time. On Father's Day, we went to church, the shooting range and barbecued (of course, Rainey didn't go to the shooting range). Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures with my camera. Granddad has them on his and when I get copies, I will be sure to post.

Corpus Christi Beach
We had such a great time at the beach this past weekend. We stayed busy the whole time. We went to the Texas State Aquarium, USS Lexington Museum, and hung out by the pool. The waves were a little rough on the beach so we didn't take Rainey into the water but Chip did take him for a walk on the sand. There was even a music concert a few blocks away on the beach that we managed to watch for a few minutes Saturday night.
We are definitely planning a return trip!!

No wonder he's been cranky!
Rainey was cranky about two weeks ago and we couldn't figure out why. He wasn't running a fever. He was sleeping pretty good and eating well. He did have a runny nose, which was a sign of him teething in the past. We looked in his mouth multiple times and could not see or feel any teeth coming in. We thought maybe he was going through a growth spurt. Well, apparently we didn't check good enough.
Today while relaxing on the couch, Rainey came straight towards me with an open-mouth kiss (or head butt) when I noticed something in his mouth. I looked closer and saw two more teeth on top AND two more teeth on bottom that had broken through his gums. All of them were towards the back of his mouth. We thought they would come in line with the ones he already had on the bottom. Apparently not! I called the dentist and they can come in sporadically.
Well that explains it!
(PS - Rainey will be 15 months tomorrow!! He goes in for his check-up and shots in the am.)

Busy week/weekend
We have been pretty busy with doctor's appointments, playdates, gym, storytime, etc. Here are a few pictures I took over the past two weeks.
We are going to Corpus Christi Beach this weekend for a little getaway (I can't wait). Rainey will get to experience the beach for the first time. We are also going to try to make it to the Texas State Aquarium, which I know he will love. I will post pics when we get back.

Here is are my boys. Daddy really misses horses.
Maybe one day we can have one or two.

Gestational diabetes
I didn't pass my blood stick last Wednesday for gestational diabetes. So I went back to the doctor yesterday for more tests. Three hours and four blood sticks later, they diagnosed me with gestational diabetes. 3-5% of pregnant women get this. Half of the women who develop this have no risk factors - which I didn't. No Dad, it is not caused by age :)
This can be controlled by diet and exercise. I have to start monitoring my sugar several times a day and watch my diet. I will see a nutrition counselor next week for a menu and then visit with her throughout the rest of my pregnancy. There shouldn't be any complications for labor and delivery, other than maybe a "larger" baby. I hope that doesn't happen! Here's a link if you are interested in reading more.

WALKING!!!
Woo-hoo! Rainey is 14 1/2 months and walking. He has been taking a few steps here and there around our house. But low and behold, we get to Oma and Opa's house over Memorial Weekend and he starts taking off. He is getting pretty good. The one bad thing is that I can't hear him. When he crawled, I could hear his hands on the tile or legs dragging on the carpet. I guess I'm going to have to buy him those shoes that squeak when he walks so I know where he is. He is a walking fool!
Memorial Weekend
Chuck E Cheese
Rainey went to a friend's birthday party at Chuck E Cheese a couple of weekends ago. The first picture wasn't "after" the party. He actually fell asleep in the car on the way there and stayed asleep in his stroller for a good 30 minutes. I don't know how he stayed asleep with all the noise and action going on around him. When he finally awoke, he had a great time!

Mother's Day and Rainey's Dedication
Opa's little helper
New pool and shades
Loves to read!
Rainey is a reading fool! He loves to read books. We read books anywhere from two to three times a day. He starts off by reading by himself. He actually makes noise like he is reading out loud. After a few minutes, he brings the books to either of us and it's our turn to read to him. I hope he keeps it up through school.

Mommy's illness
As most of you are aware, I was admitted to the hospital last Thursday after being sick for a week. I was in/out of OB observation twice before being admitted. After several tests and a spinal tap, a neurologist confirmed that I had viral meningitis. They kept me in the hospital in isolation for four days. I was on an IV with steroid treatment. I was discharged yesterday and sent home with steroids to take for a week.
I am feeling much better but am very tired. The neurologist said to expect to be tired for a couple of weeks and take it easy. Thankfully my mom flew in a week ago last Thursday (my first onset of illness) and has been helping to take care of Rainey and the house.
